A 3-year-old Davis boy was hospitalized at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento after falling from a second-story window at an East Davis apartment complex Tuesday evening, fire officials said.

The boy, whose name was not released, was conscious and breathing when firefighters arrived at the Tuscany Villas Apartments, 2526 E. Eighth St., Davis Fire Department spokeswoman Evelyn George said. The fall occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m.

An ambulance crew rushed the boy to the Med Center, where he underwent surgery after his arrival, according to George.

“He’s stable and recovering,” Davis police Lt. Paul Doroshov said. He added that the incident is being handled as a medical call, and officers did not take a report at the scene.

“It appears to be accidental at this point,” Doroshov said.
