DIXON — A suspect in an assault earlier in the evening, said to be armed with a shotgun and driving a stolen vehicle, was shot by a California Highway Patrol officer Monday night after the suspect charged at officers who stopped his Ford Ranger, the highway patrol reported.

The suspect, whose name was not released, was taken to Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center, said CHP spokesman Officer Chris Parker. His condition was not known.

Parker said the suspect was combative and had to be subdued before being transported by ambulance to Kaiser.

Authorities shut down the freeway just west of Kidwell Road, according to the regional Transportation Management Center. All but one lane was reopened at approximately 10 p.m. The right lane was closed until midnight between Kidwell and Pedrick roads.

The assault with a deadly weapon took place in Sacramento, the CHP reported. Officers saw a white Ford Ranger matching the description of the stolen vehicle at about 7:30 p.m. on Dixon Avenue in Dixon.

The Solano County Sheriff’s Office and Solano County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the shooting, which is standard procedure in such incidents.
