The Davis Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is looking into the cause of a three-car collision at Fifth and B streets that critically injured two people Sunday.
Lt. Paul Doroshov said the crash occurred at about 2:35 p.m. when the driver of a Toyota Sienna minivan failed to obey a stop sign at the right-hand curve from westbound Fifth Street onto northbound B Street and struck two other vehicles.
“Based on our initial investigation, it doesn’t seem as though an attempt was made (to stop),” Doroshov said. As it traveled through both the northbound and southbound lanes of B Street, the Sienna collided with a northbound Toyota RAV4, which overturned, resulting in serious injuries to the driver and passenger.
The driver, 22-year-old Lue Moua of Sacramento, and passenger Jih Lee, 23, of Sacramento, were extricated from their vehicle by Davis firefighters and transported to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento — one by helicopter, Doroshov said. Their conditions were upgraded Monday from critical to stable condition.
After hitting the RAV4, the Sienna struck a southbound Subaru Legacy driven by Davis resident Veronica Foster, 39, who was not injured, Doroshov said. He identified the driver of the Sienna as 22-year-old Bailey Yee of Davis, who also was unhurt.
Doroshov said the MAIT team will investigate the cause of the collision “due to severity of the injuries.” He said neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be factors in the crash.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call the Davis Police Department at (530) 747-5400.
