Crash causes traffic gridlock on eastbound I-80

Three people were hospitalized Saturday after their involvement in a four-car crash that temporarily shut down the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 in Davis, fire officials said.

Davis Fire Department Capt. Bobby Weist said the collision occurred at about 4:20 p.m. on I-80 west of Mace Boulevard, where crews arrived to find the vehicles blocking the fast lane. Six people were involved in the crash, and three of them were taken by ambulance to Sutter Davis Hospital with minor injuries.

All eastbound lanes were shut down as emergency personnel investigated the crash and tended to the victims, and “it backed up traffic for miles,” Weist said. The California Highway Patrol is looking into the cause of the crash.
