The Davis Police Department has crossed another of its “most wanted” suspects off its list, thanks to Google and a curious user of the Internet search engine.
Olatunji Omari Amin Raheem, also known as Olatunji Omari Richards, 26, was wanted on an outstanding warrant stemming from a May 1, 2006, parking lot assault in Davis.
According to Davis police spokesman Paul Doroshov, Raheem is believed to have struck another man in the face, breaking his jaw, at an apartment complex at 512 I St.
“The victim told police that when he arrived home, there was a vehicle with multiple occupants parked in his designated parking stall,” Doroshov said. “The victim confronted the occupants, asking them to move. The victim alleges that the suspect (Raheem) got out of the car and struck the victim in the face.”
Raheem was arrested and jailed, but failed to show up for his subsequent court dates, Doroshov said. As a result, a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Fast-forward five years, to Aug. 19, when “someone familiar with Raheem checked his name on Google and found him on Davis PD’s most-wanted list,” Doroshov said.
Raheem has been living in the San Francisco area, where authorities, working in cooperation with Davis police, took him into custody on the outstanding Yolo County warrant, Doroshov said.
