Davis police investigate sexual assault

By
January 28, 2013 |

Davis police are seeking the suspect in a sexual assault and robbery that occurred Saturday at Davis Community Church.

Lt. Glenn Glasgow said police received a report from a woman who said she was walking on the church property at 412 C St. in search of an animal adoption center at about 11:20 a.m., she was confronted by a man who brandished scissors at her, then committed a sexual assault. He then fled after taking the woman’s cell phone.

The suspect was described as a heavy-set black male in his early 20s, 5-foot-10 to 6 feet tall, with a bad complexion. He was last seen wearing dark clothing and red shoes, as well as a black backpack and black gloves.

The Rev. Bill Habicht, one of DCC’s pastors, said no church services or other programs were taking place on the property at the time of the incident. He said outside groups do use the buildings at times, but he is unsure which, if any, were there on Saturday.

Church staff have been cooperative with the police investigation, Habicht added.

“We’re deeply saddened this occurred,” he said. “We urge people to be vigilant and take steps to ensure their own safety.”

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the Davis Police Department at 530-747-5400.
