Both the Davis and UC Davis fire departments have deployed strike teams to assist with the wildfires burning in Southern California, Chief Nathan Trauernicht said.

The UCD unit, assigned to an Office of Emergency Services engine, includes a captain and three firefighters, as well as strike team leader Capt. Kim Jester, has been assigned to the San Diego Complex fires, according to Trauernicht. That team left Davis early Friday morning.

On Saturday, the Davis Fire Department sent a strike team of three firefighters and a captain to the Camp Pendleton area, Trauernicht said. Division Chief Shawn Kinney is accompanying the group as a strike team leader trainee.
