A Davis teenager has died from head injuries he suffered after falling from a moving vehicle earlier this month.

According to the Sacramento County coroner’s office, Christopher Argumedo, 18, was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m. Saturday at the UC Davis Medical Center, where he had been listed in critical condition for more than a week following the July 11 accident.

Davis police said Argumedo was one of two people who were riding on the trunk of a friend’s Acura sedan in the area of J Street and Cranbrook Court in East Davis.

“During the course of riding on the trunk, the passenger fell off and hit his head on the ground,” Lt. Tom Waltz said. The second person who was riding on the trunk was not hurt.

Argumedo recently completed his senior year at Davis High School.

Sgt. Rod Rifredi of the Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team said Monday that the incident remains under investigation, but “there was no gross negligence involved.”
