A 78-year-old West Sacramento woman has received jail time, probation and a hefty fine or her role in the 2009 death of another woman she struck with her car in a store parking lot.
Donna Marie McClure was convicted in August of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence for the Oct. 2, 2009, death of Jewell Mattos.
The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday that Yolo Superior Court Judge Timothy Fall sentenced McClure to a year in county jail, followed by five years of felony probation. She also must pay $26,000 in restitution to Mattos’ family.
Proseuctors said McClure was driving on a suspended license when she struck Mattos in the parking lot of a West Sacramento Raley’s store, carrying her 20 to 30 feet before stopping her car. Mattos died from her injuries the following day.
According to a news release from the DA, McClure told police she drove on the day of the incident because “she had too much pride to ask her friends for rides.”
