Employee busted for office burglary

By From page A4 | March 27, 2012

An investigation into a commercial burglary last week led police to one of the business’ own employees.

The break-in occurred early on the morning of March 20, when someone broke into the Third Street office shared by Crepeville and Burgers & Brew and stole both a laptop computer and a wall safe, Davis police Lt. Paul Doroshov said Monday.

Police found the safe outside, pried open and emptied of cash.

Doroshov said evidence at the scene led investigators to 28-year-old Francisco Ortega of Davis, an employee of one of the businesses. A search of his East Eighth Street apartment allegedly yielded both the laptop and an undisclosed amount of cash.
