Fire crews battle small blazes along freeway, train tracks

By From page A4 | July 06, 2012

Train travel in Davis came to a temporary halt Tuesday after a railroad tie caught fire, according to the Davis Fire Department.

Spokeswoman Evelyn George said the fire was reported at 2:24 p.m. on the tracks along Second Street, across from the Toad Hollow dog park. Fire crews extinguished the fire, and no ties required replacement.

Later Tuesday, shortly before 8 p.m., firefighters from Davis, UC Davis and West Sacramento also battled eight separate spot fires along westbound Interstate 80 between Mace Boulevard and the Yolo Causeway, George said.

The cause of the fires — which resulted in no injuries or dollar loss — remains undetermined.
