Davis firefighters survey the damage caused to a fire truck that ran off eastbound Interstate 80 at the Yolo Causeway on Monday morning. According to the California Highway Patrol, the truck’s right front tire blew out shortly before 8:30 a.m., causing driver John Hurley Jr. of Fairfield to lose control of the rig and travel down an embankment into a ditch. Hurley, 58, was transported by ambulance to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for minor lacerations to his face and complaint of pain. A hazardous waste specialist also was called to the scene after a small amount of fluid from the truck leaked into nearby water. Fire officials say the truck was assigned to a state prison facility in Vacaville.
