Freeway crash injures two drivers

Two drivers are recovering from injuries they sustained in a freeway accident that occurred earlier this week in Davis, according to the Davis Fire Department.

Spokeswoman Evelyn George said the incident occurred at about 10:15 a.m. Tuesday on eastbound Interstate 80 near Mace Boulevard when the driver of a passenger vehicle fell asleep at the wheel, colliding with a UPS big rig, causing the rig to leave the freeway and crash through a fence onto Chiles Road.

A third vehicle became involved in the crash at that point but that driver was not injured, George said. The motorists in the first two vehicles were transported to area hospitals with unspecified injuries, and cleanup of leaked antifreeze was required at the crash scene.
