Hay bales burn east of Davis

Davis firefighters responded to a first-alarm grass fire Monday that damaged hay bales east of town, officials said.

The fire at FrontierAg, in the 46000 block of County Road 32B, was reported shortly before 4:30 p.m. The burning hay bales threatened a large stack of cardboard as well as an area of rice hulls, Davis Fire Department spokeswoman Evelyn George said. Crews from the UC Davis and West Sacramento fire departments assisted in fighting the blaze.

The still-smoldering fire continued to be watched Tuesday, and authorities are investigating the cause. There was no dollar loss because the hay was not marketable, George said. No injuries were reported.
