Head-on crash in Brooks injures three

Three Woodlanders, including a 2-year-old boy, were hospitalized Wednesday following a head-on collision in the Capay Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred shortly before 2 p.m. on Highway 16 in Brooks, where a driver towing a trailer improperly loaded with cinderblocks lost control of his Ford F-150 truck, according to a CHP news release.

The eastbound truck veered into the westbound lane due to a fishtailing trailer and struck a Toyota Corolla head-on, the CHP said. The collision injured the driver, 29-year-old Quynh Troung of Woodland, and passengers Wgoo Tran, 28; and Ryan Troung, 2.

All three were taken to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, with the boy, who was properly restrained in a car seat, going by helicopter with a large laceration to his forehead, according to the CHP.

The driver of the Ford truck, 18-year-old Placido Hernandez of Woodland, was not injured. Neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the collision, the CHP said.
