A 42-year-old San Jose man was arrested on drunken driving and other charges Saturday after allegedly crashing his vehicle, then trying to elude authorities in a Knights Landing bar, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Rosendo A. Veloz was driving a Ford Expedition northbound on Highway 113 at about 6:15 p.m. Saturday “when due to his level of alcohol intoxication, he allowed his vehicle to drift out of the lane, and strike a guard rail resulting in major damage to the vehicle,” CHP Officer Cindy Leal said.
Officers who arrived at the crash scene found that Veloz had fled the scene and run into the nearby Stingrays bar, Leal said. He was taken into custody there and returned to the scene, where a passenger in the Ford complained of a bump to his head but refused medical aid.
Veloz was lodged at the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of DUI causing injury, hit and run, driving on a suspended license and driving without proof of vehicle insurance. He also had a $50,000 misdemeanor warrant for his arrest out of San Francisco, Leal said.
