A shot fired Monday night at an East Davis apartment complex turned out to be accidental, Davis police said Wednesday.
The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. at the Silverstone Apartments, 2400 Pole Line Road, where a 23-year-old man accidentally fired a round while cleaning and adjusting his 9mm pistol, Lt. Paul Doroshov said.
The bullet exited the man’s second-floor apartment and went through the window of a neighboring apartment, just above where a 22-year-old woman was working on her computer, Doroshov said.
Police were called to the scene and began investigating the incident as a shot fired into an inhabited dwelling. By then, the gun owner had left his apartment.
But based on the trajectory of the bullet, officers concluded it must have come from the man’s residence, Doroshov said. The full story of the accidental shooting came to light when police made contact with the man at about 2:20 a.m. Tuesday.
The man was legally in possession of the weapon, and no criminal charges are pending, Doroshov said. There were no injuries — “just a close call,” he said.
