The shared fire management team of the Davis and UC Davis fire departments kicks off its “community office hours” program from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Panera Bread, 609 Third St. in downtown Davis.
“In today’s technological environment there is really little excuse not to take the office outside of the traditional structural walls and embed ourselves closer to the communities that we serve,” Fire Chief Nathan Trauernicht says. “Shared staff will take laptops and tablets and work from these locations while being available to answer questions from citizens and increase the fire department’s visibility in the community.”
Community office hours will occur at a local coffee/breakfast spot once a week for two to three hours. The time and location will be announced in advance over social media, as well as traditional and nontraditional media outlets.
Staff available during office hours will typically include the fire chief, deputy fire chief of operation, deputy fire chief of training and safety, fire marshal and fire inspector, as well as a shift division chief.
Trauernicht adds, “We look forward to engaging the city and campus communities proactively through this program that builds on the values of access, community engagement and transparency that have been a cornerstone of the new shared fire administration.”
