Not-guilty plea entered in Woodland homicide case

By From page A2 | August 22, 2014

Nearly three weeks after her alleged crime, a Woodland woman pleaded not guilty Thursday to murder and weapon charges stemming from the shooting death of her husband.

Susan Kathleen Hoskins’ arraignment was delayed several times while the Yolo County Public Defender’s Officer determined whether the 59-year-old Woodland Healthcare nurse qualified for its legal services. After being deemed unqualified, Hoskins hired a private attorney, who made her first appearance in Yolo Superior Court.

Hoskins is accused of fatally shooting her husband Bryan Morris Hoskins, 60, on the night of Aug. 3 in her Knollwood Drive condominium. She then called 911 to report her role in the incident, police said.

The case is scheduled for a pre-hearing conference on Aug. 27 and preliminary hearing on Sept. 26 in Judge Samuel McAdams’ courtroom. Hoskins remains on a no-bail hold at the Yolo County Jail in the meantime.
