Davis police have identified one of two suspects in last month’s armed robbery of the Motel 6 on Chiles Road. Now, they need the public’s help to bring him into custody.
Cameron Jaclecus Shepherd, 30, of Oakland, is believed to be the man who pointed a handgun at a motel clerk on the afternoon of June 6 — an incident that led to the lockdown of nearby Pioneer Elementary School when the suspects fled on foot into a South Davis neighborhood, Lt. Paul Doroshov said.
The robbers fled the motel with an undisclosed amount of cash, and no one was injured.
Investigators identified Shepherd as a suspect through “physical evidence that we got from the scene,” Doroshov said, though he declined to elaborate. He added that Shepherd is a “person of interest” in two other robberies that occurred in the Bay Area before and after the Davis incident.
Police have obtained a warrant for Shepherd’s arrest and plan to add him to the department’s list of “most wanted” suspects, Doroshov said. Shepherd is described as an African-American male, 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, with brown hair and eyes, as well as distinctive freckles on his cheeks, nose and forehead.
“This person’s obviously armed and dangerous,” Doroshov said. He urged anyone with information about Shepherd’s whereabouts to avoid taking action on their own and instead contact either the Davis Police Department at (530) 747-5400, or their local law-enforcement agency.
Shepherd’s alleged accomplice in the robbery has not been identified. That person has been described as an African-American male, about 5-foot-6 with a thin build, who wore a light blue “hoodie” sweatshirt and black rag over his hair at the time of the robbery.
