RedRover, a Sacramento-based national nonprofit animal protection organization, is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and arraignment in the case of two dogs found decapitated in Knights Landing.
A resident reported finding the headless and disemboweled body of a Chihuahua in her vehicle on June 6, two weeks after discovering the head of a terrier in a boat on the same property. The owner of the Chihuahua has since been identified and reported that the dog went missing from its yard in Knights Landing last Wednesday night, Chief Animal Services Officer Vicky Fletcher said.
Fletcher said her department also has received a report of a missing chocolate Labrador in Knights Landing, but so far it’s unclear whether it’s related to these recent incidents.
“We hope our reward will encourage someone who knows more about these horrifying acts of animal cruelty to come forward with information that could solve this crime and make the community safer,” said Nicole Forsyth, RedRover president and CEO.
“Violence toward animals is often a precursor to violence toward people, so Knights Landing residents have a stake in seeing that whoever committed this illegal act is punished to the full extent of the law.”
Anyone with information in this case is encouraged to call the Yolo County Sheriff’s Department at 530-668-5280 or the Animal Services Section at 530-668-5287.
