Davis police arrested 28-year-old Alberto Martinez of Woodland early Saturday after a downtown brawl. He was arrested on suspicion of battery with great bodily injury for knocking out a man who also suffered a broken leg.

According to Davis police Sgt. Dan Powell:

At about 2 a.m., the victim, a 24-year-old Woodland man, and his friend were talking to women on the 300 block of G Street. Other men apparently took exception and attacked them. A drunken scrum of about a dozen men ensued.

Most bolted when police arrived. The victim was found sprawled unconscious, having been allegedly knocked down by a punch to the head by Martinez.

When the victim came to, he told an officer that he had broken his leg below the knee by tripping over a curb while trying to help his friend up. He was taken by ambulance to Sutter Davis Hospital for treatment.
