Three people were hospitalized with major injuries late Friday night following a solo vehicle accident west of Yolo, the California Highway Patrol reported Monday.

Officer Cindy Leal said 30-year-old James B. Muller of Dixon was at the wheel of a 1974 Chevy Cheyenne that left the roadway on County Road 17 near County Road 95 at about 11:30 p.m. The vehicle struck a barbed-wire fence and overturned, injuring Muller and two women who were not wearing seat belts, according to Leal.

Muller suffered from massive head trauma, lacerations and internal injuries. Nicole Putnam, 31, of Winters, also suffered major head trauma, while 31-year-old Olivia L. Lopez of Napa had various bone fractures, Leal said.

All three were transported to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for treatment. The crash remains under investigation, though Leal noted that Muller was unfamiliar with the rural roadway.
