Two arrested after robbery, pursuit

An armed robbery led to a police chase from Mace Boulevard to the UC Davis campus, where the alleged robber and his getaway driver were taken into custody early Friday morning.

Lt. Glenn Glasgow said the incident began at 2:15 a.m., when two people reported being robbed of their property at Fifth and L streets by a man displaying a handgun. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, but not before the victims obtained a description and partial license-plate number and gave the information to police.

At about 2:40 a.m., a Davis patrol officer spotted a car matching that description entering westbound Interstate 80 from Mace Boulevard, Glasgow said. Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to yield, launching a pursuit that entered the UCD campus from Old Davis Road and ended in the 200 block of A Street.

The driver, identified as 25-year-old Sunnie Robertson of Woodland, was taken into custody without incident, Glasgow said. But the search continued for the alleged robber, who had run from the vehicle.

Davis police, with assistance from UCD officers and a California Highway Patrol helicopter, searched the area. At one point, the suspect temporarily evaded officers on a bicycle, but, following a foot chase, was apprehended by a K9 officer and his partner near the Social Sciences building on campus, Glasgow said.

Brian McDonald, 27, of Woodland, and Robertson were both lodged at the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of robbery and felony evasion of a police officer. McDonald also faces a resisting arrest charge, while Robertson is accused of committing a felony while on bail for a previous offense, Glasgow said.
