Two arrests in 11 hours for alleged shoplifter
Davis police arrested the same man twice in an 11-hour period last weekend on suspicion of shoplifting booze from two local stores.
Christopher David Barnes, 19, first got picked up at about 4:15 p.m. Sunday after employees of Save Mart allegedly caught him taking vodka, gin, beer and toothpaste from the Anderson Road store without paying, Lt. Paul Doroshov said.
Police took Barnes to the Yolo County Jail in Woodland, where staff said the suspect was too intoxicated to be booked, Doroshov said. He was taken to Sutter Davis Hospital for medical clearance.
Barnes was released to the hospital’s custody “so he could be properly treated,” Doroshov said. At about 3 a.m. Monday, hospital staff called police to alert them that Barnes had been cleared and was about to be released.
Twenty minutes later, an officer patrolling The Marketplace shopping center on West Covell Boulevard spotted Barnes leaving Safeway with a 12-pack of beer that clerks said had not been paid for, Doroshov said. Barnes was arrested a second time and taken to the county jail.
This time, he stayed there, Doroshov said.
