Three women, two teenage girls and a Woodland police officer were injured in two vehicle crashes Wednesday, authorities reported.
The first crash, at about 8:30 a.m., involved a single vehicle west of Woodland. Driver Maria Guadalupe Avina Segura, 47, of Esparto, told the California Highway Patrol that her vision became impaired by the morning sun just before she ran off eastbound Highway 16 near County Road 96. Her 1994 Honda Accord struck a tree, Officer Cindy Leal said.
Two female passengers, ages 30 and 66, were taken by air ambulance to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento with possible broken bones, Leal said. One teen, 16, had a broken left arm and hand, while a 14-year-old girl complained of pain to her body.
Segura, who also went to the Med Center with bruising and body pain, was cited for being an unlicensed driver, Leal said.
The Woodland police officer suffered minor injuries when his patrol car collided with another vehicle at a Woodland intersection Wednesday evening.
According to reports from the Woodland Police Department and the CHP, which is investigating the crash, Officer Nolan McManus, 31, was responding to a police call on Kentucky Avenue shortly after 7 p.m. when the crash occurred at West Beamer Avenue and California Street.
Investigators say the other driver, 39-year-old Ella Hernandez of Woodland, had stopped at a stop sign on California Street, then pulled into the path of the patrol car, which was not required to stop at the intersection.
McManus was treated at Woodland Memorial Hospital for complaint-of-pain injuries to his neck and shoulders. Hernandez was not hurt but was cited for being an unlicensed driver, the CHP said.
