Woodland city worker accused of embezzlement

A Woodland city employee was arrested on embezzlement charges Monday, accused of bilking the Woodland City Employees Association of more than $36,000 over a three-year period, according to police.

Ronald Dean Scott, 55, served as treasurer of the employee-funded organization during the alleged embezzlement, which occurred between 2009 and 2012 and did not involve any public funds, Woodland police Lt. Anthony Cucchi said. The police investigation began last week after another member of the organization notified police of financial irregularities.

Cucchi said the money was spent on “personal items — debts and purchases.”

Online records indicate Scott is employed as an engineering technician III in Woodland’s Community Development Department, though information about his current employment status was not immediately available Tuesday.

Scott was taken into custody shortly after 4 p.m. Monday at his Woodland home and lodged at the Yolo County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail. He remained in custody as of Tuesday evening.

The investigation of this case is continuing, and anyone with information is asked to call the Woodland Police Department at 530-661-7800. Callers may remain anonymous.
