A 31-year-old Woodland man lost his life Thursday night, the result of a four-car collision on Highway 16 near the town of Madison, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Kenneth Richard Castillo was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred at about 11:35 p.m. near County Road 90, CHP Officer Bryan Konvalin said.

According to Konvalin, Castillo was traveling westbound on Highway 16 in a Volkswagen Jetta and, for unknown reasons, drifted into the eastbound lane. The Jetta struck the left front of a GMC Terrain and sideswiped a Toyota Camry before being broadsided by a third car.

Konvalin said the CHP is investigating whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, which also left a second driver with complaint-of-pain injuries.
