You people are just negative and grouchy!! The video was not perfect but it brought OBVIOUS drama to the story and the location description couldn't have been more clear. Use your mind a little more and the GPS a little less. I could imagine the scene EXACTLY as it was described. Can we encourage our HS students with some constructive critisizm and stop being SIMPLY NEGATIVE??? There's somethin' fer ya to spell check!!!

Jonathan, Just read my post again and am chagrined to see that my proofreader and editor (me) didn't catch a spelling error. "desparation" should be "desperation". As you, in journalism say, "Nonetheless, my story stands", or in my case, "..., my comment stands."

Jonathan, I may be old school, but the trade off of getting a story 30 minutes after it happens, with poor grammar and spelling errors is not worth it. As Bob Dunning will attest, The Enterprise used to uphold a standard comparable to other big city papers. It's called pride and integrity. Another 15 minutes for someone to proofread and edit (not spellcheck; it's not the same) would give The Enterprise name far more credibility than getting a flawed story out. Poor grammar and spelling speak of sensationalism and desparation, i.e., Fox News. You don't need to compete with them or others in their genre. If it's important enough to get a story out within minutes of when it occurs, it's important enough to do it right! Please do so.

Hey David — I get and share your frustration. We're doing things a little differently here at the Enterprise, and there bound to be a few hiccups as we transition into a new kind of journalism.

Part of that is getting the news to readers faster than we ever have before. Last night was a good example. Because of our talented video intern Tuan Doan (a Da Vinci High student), we had a story as well as updates on Facebook and Twitter a half hour after the victim was allegedly knifed.

The trade-offs are a few more errors in spelling and grammar. But you were able to read that story and comment on it in the wee hours of Sunday morning instead of waiting until Monday morning.

And I respectfully disagree that the black video is useless. The video quality is admittedly poor, which is the result of a camera battery dying in the field, which forced the use of a cell phone camera. Our apologies on that one.

However, the reason I posted the video was the audio. You can hear a woman's dramatic wailing in the background, emergency crews on radios and directing people and the din of a crime scene — all of which I think captures what was going on. The words do the heavy lifting in terms of context.

All the best,
