The California Highway Patrol is investigating a Friday night crash involving a Woodland Police Department patrol vehicle.

According to a news release, an on-duty police officer was traveling eastbound on Gibson Road near Washington Drive, en route to a domestic violence call, at 11:20 p.m. when a Volkswagen Beetle making a left turn from northbound Washington onto Gibson Road pulled into his path.

The officer, Corey Fondersmith, swerved left to avoid a collision, then overcorrected to the right and struck a sound wall on the south side of the road, the CHP reported. Fondersmith was not injured.

A passenger in the Beetle sustained minor injuries but declined treatment. Neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to be factors in the incident, according to the CHP.
