The two young brothers who died in a car accident Friday near Clarksburg were identified by Yolo County coroner’s officials Monday as Alexander Guzman, 5, and Angel Guzman, 2.

Both boys died of multiple blunt-force injuries stemming from the 10 a.m. crash on Jefferson Boulevard near Central Avenue, where according to the California Highway Patrol the boys’ mother lost control of the 2004 Honda Civic and veered off the road, striking a tree. The impact caused the vehicle to split in half.

The children were ejected from the wreckage, and the CHP was investigating whether they were properly restrained inside the car at the time of the crash. Officers said Alexander Guzman was in the front passenger seat of the car, although state law would have required both to be in child safety seats in the rear of the vehicle.

CHP officials identified the mother Monday as Imelda Guzman, 42, of Clarksburg. She was hospitalized with moderate injuries following the collision.
