The San Jose Mercury News has identified the victim. He was from Alamo, in the Bay Area. "WINTERS -- An experienced Alamo cyclist was killed Wednesday evening after being hit head-on by a vehicle in Solano County, according to the California Highway Patrol. The victim was identified as 72-year-old Dan Taylor by the Solano County Coroner's Office. The accident occurred shortly before 5 p.m. on Putah Creek Road about one mile east of Interstate Highway 505, in an area popular with cyclists. Taylor, an experienced rider, was cycling alone down a long stretch of road between orchards when a car crossed the eastbound lane and struck him, according CHP spokesman Officer Chris Parker."

I frequently see cars and pickup trucks flying by cyclists on that low-traffic road, often 50-60 MPH. CHP or Winters police should patrol it for speeders.

I agree - Cyclists should lobby Winters to educate their citizens, esp Spanish speakers about the rights of cyclists and the rules of the road, courtesy, and respect for life.

It happened in SOLANO COUNTY. That's CHP area. Good luck with that extra enforcement.
