In Davis, parking garages aren’t just a place to put your car. They’re art experiences now, thanks to the efforts of a team of muralists and community members who transformed the interior of the parking garage at First and F streets into an Art Garage.

The three-story mural fills the entryways on each floor of the Regal Cinema garage, as well as the stairwell. On the second floor, spanning more than 150 feet on the north wall, is the Davis Community Mural, which more than 200 local residents and artists created throughout March. The mural is a celebration of the art, culture and history of Davis.

It depicts the creation of the art, philosophy and music departments at UC Davis in 1952 as well as events such as Oktoberfest, the Whole Earth Festival, Picnic Day and the Out Our Way festival.

While the first phase of the project focused on the stairwell and the second floor, the second phase will concentrate on the exterior and the addition of artistic benches and murals on the interior.
