Davis artist Susan von Borstel won the People’s Choice Award at the 22nd annual Cattlemen’s Western Art Show in Paso Robles earlier this month. Her booth displayed her oil paintings on natural stone.

Von Borstel has been painting on stone for 10 years after being inspired by old stone buildings during a horseback tour of southern Spain. She worked with a chemist to make sure her paintings will last.

She has taught art, judged shows, won competitions and has collectors around the world. Her depictions of 20 horse breeds are on exhibit at the Kentucky Horse Park museum in Lexington, Ky.
