February 16, 2011 |

Applications for Davis Cooperative Community Fund grants are due by 5 p.m. Friday, April 8, the Davis Food Co-op announced.

The fund, which is supported by donations from Co-op shoppers and members as well as matching funds from the Davis Food Co-op and the Twin Pines Cooperative Foundation, offers small annual grants to qualifying nonprofits or cooperatives.

More than $14,000 in grants has been awarded in past years to organizations based in Davis or serving Yolo County, and dedicated to working on issues in agriculture, food and hunger, community and social problems or the environment. Grant amounts have ranged from $80 to $400 per organization.

Applications and details on eligibility for grants are available on the Davis Food Co-op website, http://davisfood.coop/dccf_app.html, or in person at the Co-op, 620 G St. in downtown Davis.

The Davis Food Co-op is a member-owned supermarket specializing in natural, organic and minimally processed foods. The Co-op is open to the general public to shop and join. Members pay the shelf price while nonmembers pay a 5 percent surcharge. For more information, call the Co-op at (530) 758-2667.
