Davis Film Festival becomes competitive this year

By From page A9 | February 29, 2012

The ninth annual Davis Film Festival takes place Friday and Saturday, April 6 and 7, at the Veterans’ Memorial Theatre, 203 E. 14th St. in Davis. Eleven hours of films from locally and around the world are planned.

Twenty-one filmmakers will compete for three top prizes in the first competitive festival. Juried categories are Best Feature and Best Short. The third top prize is the Audience Award.

Corporate sponsorships are still available for this year’s festival, as well as for the 10th annual gala celebration in April 2013, which will showcase three full days of films, guest speakers, a screenwriting workshop and live entertainment. Volunteers are still needed for this year’s festival, and to help plan next year’s celebration.

Tickets are $7 each and go on sale Thursday at www.davisfilmfest.org as well as at Armadillo Music, 205 F St. in downtown Davis, (530) 758-8058. Tickets also will be available at the door.

Final 2012 film selections and a complete festival schedule will be posted on the festival website by March 15. For more information, call (530) 383-1711.
