Do your feet or hands tingle? Do they feel like they are numb, burning or freezing? Do you have stinging, stabbing or shooting pains? Do you feel like you are wearing a stocking or glove when you’re not?
You may have peripheral neuropathy, the most common disease most folks have never heard of, said a spokesman for a local support group.
There are more than 100 causes for peripheral neuropathy symptoms: Diabetes accounts for about one-third, but other causes include heredity, alcoholism, radiation, toxic chemical exposure, HIV, too much vitamin B6, gluten intolerance, some medications and unknown origin (idiopathic).
About 2 million Californians have peripheral neuropathy.
To learn more from others with similar symptoms and to receive support, anyone interested is invited to attend the Davis Neuropathy Group’s next meeting, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Davis Senior Center, 646 A St.
