The deadline has been extended for the annual Street Smarts traffic safety poster contest. Young artists are invited to show off their Street Smarts by creating original artwork illustrating the importance of proper helmet use, safe bicycle riding, crossing the street safely, and safe driving — including awareness about distracted driving and the dangers of talking or texting while walking or operating a vehicle. The contest is open to all students in grades K-6.
New to the program this year, winning entries will be turned into bookmarks that will be handed out at The Avid Reader, schools and libraries, and other Davis locales. All entries will be displayed in an art show at the Davis Art Center, 1919 F St., Dec. 7-15.
Mayor Joe Krovoza will greet families and award prizes to the winning artists at an awards ceremony on Dec. 7. Prizes will be awarded in two categories (grades K-3 and 4-6), but all students who participate will be presented with prizes at the opening.
The new deadline to turn in entries at City Hall is 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26. For entry forms, rules and more information, visit http://street-smarts.cityofdavis.org, call 530-757-5640 or email [email protected].
