Mozart called the pipe organ the “king of instruments,” if not for its impressive power, perhaps for the wide range of its sounds and the resulting capability to convey a wide breadth of emotion and mood.
Calling his program “High Drama on the Keyboard,” David Deffner will perform evocative music in his organ recital at 4 p.m. Sunday at Davis Community Church, 412 C St. Included in the program are the A major “Fantasy” by Franck, the G minor “Fantasy & Fugue” by Bach and the “Gothic Suite” by Boellmann.
Deffner is an accomplished organist who has a doctorate in church music from Northwestern University. He has performed with the Sacramento Symphony Orchestra, the Camellia Symphony, the Sacramento Area Bach Festival and the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra.
Deffner taught for years at American River College and is director of music at Davis Community Church.
Half of the $10 suggested donation supports the concert series and half goes to local and international charitable organizations. For more information, call the church office at (530) 753-2894.
