Democrats from around the region will gather for the Yolo County Democratic Party’s 37th annual Bean Feed on Sunday, Sept. 15, in Davis. Kathy Kneer, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, will be the keynote speaker.
The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Veterans’ Memorial Center, 203 E. 14th St. Tickets are $35, available online at ycdp2013dinner.eventbrite.com, or at the door.
The Bean Feed is the primary fundraiser of the Yolo County Democratic Party and provides hundreds of Democrats from Yolo and neighboring counties an opportunity to network, socialize, galvanize and focus on the work to be done in the election year ahead. All are welcome to attend.
This year’s theme, suggested by Assemblymember Mariko Yamada, is “Still Fighting for Justice.” Speakers will address this theme, noting victories for equality — from implementation of new, accessible health care laws to recognition that everyone should be permitted to marry the person they love — as well as new challenges and setbacks in voting rights, public safety and the rights of women, workers and minorities.
“Despite strides made through America’s history, we are still striving for equality and justice for all,” said Bob Schelen of Davis, chairman of the Yolo County Democratic Party. “Yolo Democrats believe meeting this challenge is a top priority. We are therefore grateful to have the opportunity to hear from Kathy Kneer, who is at the forefront of the struggle to ensure that every woman has access to adequate health care.”
The event will again feature the popular Dessert Dash contest, showcasing confections from the culinary masters of Yolo County.
