The Downtown Dixon Business Association’s board is putting the finishing touches on the first Downtown Dash — a 5-kilometer run/walk event through the east side of Dixon on Saturday, Sept. 21.
The event’s 3.2-mile map will begin and end in the Women’s Improvement Club Park, 301 N. First St., where vendor booths will be set up providing healthy snacks and water. Runners and walkers will not have to cross any major streets. All ages are welcome. Day-of registration and check-in begins at 9 a.m. in the park and the run/walk will begin at 10 a.m.
Registration is $25 per person in advance and includes a T-shirt and a gift bag with items donated by downtown businesses. Participants may register online at www.active.com by searching “Dixon” or “Dixon Downtown Dash” or by visiting the DDBA office at First Community Mortgage, 165 E. A St. in Dixon. Registration is $30 per person the day of the event.
The DDBA board came up with the idea of a raffle to get 5K participants into the downtown businesses.
The merchants will be handing out raffle tickets — to those with T-shirts or a completed registration form — the week of the event and until 1 p.m. on the day of the event. Kathy King, the lead event coordinator and DDBA treasurer, will then collect all the tickets from the participating businesses and draw the winners in the Women’s Improvement Club Park.
Raffle participating businesses include Comfy Furniture, Cynde’s Place, Linde Lane Tea Room, State Farm on First, B’s Gallery, Bella Moda Boutique, Dixon Florist, Luna’s Tanning & Massage and Travis Credit Union (water station at Hall Park).
