Donations accepted for Compassion Corner Earthbench

The Compassion Corner Earthbench, the city’s latest public art installation at the corner of Third and C streets, is ready for use.

Donations are still being accepted for this project, which was built entirely by members of the community, under the guidance of local artists Brennan Blazer Bird and Mark Rivera.

The Compassion Corner Earthbench was endorsed by the Davis Civic Arts Commission, approved by the City Council, and gifted to the city at a dedication ceremony on May 31.

The bench is a commitment to environmental sustainability, comprising “bottle bricks” (plastic water bottles packed with inorganic waste), straw, clay, dirt and water, with an outer layer of plaster sealed with linseed oil.

Construction support has come from community donations. Anyone who would like to make a donation should visit http://groups.dcn.org/compassioncorner and click on the “donate” button. Donations of any size are accepted with gratitude and all are tax-deductible.
