Lentil, interesting enough, is related to lens. Its name was given for its similar convex shape to a lens. ........... Lent, on the other hand, which is short for Lenten, means Spring. However, its etymology is more interesting than that. The &quot;len&quot; part derives from the Old English for &quot;long,&quot; and the &quot;ten&quot; part derives from &quot;tina&quot; meaning &quot;day.&quot; So Lenten meant Spring time, when the days were getting longer.]]></description>
