THE LAND OF MANY MAYORS … we all know Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes, but did anyone know Davis is apparently the city with more mayors than the entire state of Minnesota? … those of us who were lucky enough to receive an invite to a State Assembly fundraiser for Mayor Joe Krovoza were startled to learn that “Joe has led the City of Davis as its 34th mayor since 2011.” … not knowing exactly in what part of 2011 Joe started counting, that’s a heck of a lot of mayors in a very short period of time … still, it sure beats the old system where a mayor was expected to serve a full two-year term … much better to pass it around every couple of weeks or so …

WOODLAND 1, DAVIS 0 … sadly, Davis lost the first “Managers Cup” tennis showdown between Woodland City Manager Paul Navazio and Davis City Manager Steve Pinkerton … turns out Pinkerton had to pull out of the competition at the last minute, leaving Navazio holding the bag, not to mention the shiny new trophy … don’t know Pinkerton’s excuse yet, but it had better be a good one …

CRIMINAL CONDUCT … my friend Glen reports that he “just received our Home Water Report from the all-knowing city. It appears that we are water sinners, using 31 gallons more water per day than average.” … yeah, but do you really want to be “average” in this town? … adds Glen: “I guess this means rock and cacti — a heartwarming desert theme — for our front yard. Holy Mojave!” … Holy Mojave, indeed …

I’m truly sorry to hear that Glen is such a scofflaw, but it is nice to know the City Correction Police are protecting the rest of us from his wasteful habits … I suspect Glen and his family will now be doing their dinner shopping at the Dollar Tree as they try to cut back on their excessive and expensive water use … until Glen brings his usage under control, he is required to stand on the nearest street corner for 30 minutes during rush hour holding a giant “WW” sign, signifying that he is, indeed, a Water Waster …

CONFESSION IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL … Curt at comcast.net reports that he, too, is a water waster … “We got a monthly mailing from the city explaining our water use far exceeds the ‘average’ water use for households our size.” … for shame … “Well, I’ve never aspired to being ‘average,’ so I believe I’m on the right track, at least as far as water use is concerned.” … with an attitude like that, Curt, the Water Police may just have to pay you a visit, too …

A SOLUTION IS AT HAND … Sarah at pacbell.net notes that “the solution to your plastic bag problem is to run right over to our local mental health benefit store, All Things Right & Relevant, on Spafford Street in Davis, where the good volunteers have created Tank Totes made from discarded tank tops.” … there’s a reason I don’t wear tank tops, Sarah … “They come in many patterns and colors, are all cotton and are completely washable with your next load of laundry. At only $1 apiece, they are a bargain and proceeds go to help 10 local mental health agencies in Yolo County.” … thanks, Sarah, I’ll see if I can find a dollar lying around somewhere …

PUBLIC SERVICE GONE AWRY … I see where the latest poll reports that 95 percent of Americans disapprove of the job Congress is doing … makes you wonder who the other 5 percent are … probably folks who sold short on the stock market during last month’s childish government shutdown …
