Pat: the rate increase already passed. Starting on December 1, your base rate will go up by 28.7%. Starting January 1, your metered rate will go up by 36%, if you use 36 ccf (the amount now allowed under Tier 1).

The parks tax ($49 per parcel) expires in 2012. The city council (per its 10-4-11 meeting) is now considering increasing that tax, though probably not to pay for more expensive water.

And yes, if people use less water, the income to the WDCWA will decline, and that will necessitate even higher rates down the road.

I have a couple of questions regarding the water rate and wonder if they have been addressed. Suppose this rate increase passes... will our taxes for maintenance of the greenbelts and parks also go up to keep them green??? And if people start getting rid of their swimming pools and all the greenery that needs watering in their yards which means a decrease of income... does that mean the water rates will be readjusted again to make up for the income lost by not watering our lawns and maintaining the water in pools?
