Four speakers who fuse art and science will discuss their work at the LASER-UC Davis event sponsored by the UCD Art/Science Fusion Program on Thursday.

The Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous will run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Room 3001 of the Plant and Environmental Sciences building on the UCD campus. Admission is free.

Moderator/organizer Anna Davidson, a doctoral candidate in the UCD department of plant sciences, said the event begins at 6:30 with socializing and networking, with the program following at 7 p.m.

Speakers are:

* Genevieve Quick, a San Francisco-based interdisciplinary artist and art writer, who will speak on “Visual Technologies in Contemporary Art: Telescopes to CGI” from 7 to 7:25 p.m.;

* Maciej Zwieniecki, an associate professor of plant sciences, who will discuss “Trees: Masters of Microfluidics” from 7:25 to 7:50 p.m.;

* Phillip Benn, who describes himself as an “emerging artist” working in the Bay Area, who will discuss “Solid Water and Other Works” from 8:10 to 8:35 p.m.; and

* Terry Nathan, a professor in the UCD Atmospheric Science Program, the Art/Science Fusion Program and the Graduate group in applied mathematics, who will cover “Photography: Born of Science and Nurtured by Art” from 8:30 to 9 p.m.

During the break, from 7:50 to 8:10 p.m., members of the audience who are working within the intersections of art and science will have 30 seconds to share their work. Discussion/networking will take place from 9 to 9:30.
