Fast for a day, then enjoy iftar

By From page A7 | July 23, 2013

The Muslim Student Association and Islamic Center of Davis invite the community to its annual Fast For A Day event on Tuesday, July 30.

During the fasting month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset every day. Those who are sick, pregnant, nursing or traveling are excused from fasting and make up those missed days after Ramadan.

Muslims break their fast every day at sunset with a meal called iftar. This is a time for reflection and self-improvement, a news release said.

Participants are asked to fast for the day and then join the Muslim community for a meal at 6:30 p.m. July 30 in the ballroom at the UC Davis Conference Center. Those who cannot fast are invited to join the meal anyway. Admission is free.
