The Vanguard Court Watch Council of Yolo County is inviting community members to express their concerns about the judicial system, providing testimony and give personal accounts of contemporary cases in the Yolo County court system, at a public meeting Sunday, April 28.

The meeting will run from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Celebration Center Church, 100 Woodland Ave. in Woodland.

“The council will take public comment, testimony from invited speakers, and then deliberate in closed session to determine our course of action,” said David Greenwald, executive director.

The Court Watch Council comprises 12 members — eight residents of Davis, Woodland and West Sacramento plus advisers who include retired California Supreme Court Justice Cruz Reynoso; Sacramento State professor James Hernandez, a gang expert; and attorney Anthony Palik.

The Vanguard Court Watch, founded in 2010, is a nonprofit organization that researches and reports on legal issues in Yolo County.  It sends college interns to monitor court cases and “shine the light of scrutiny on a system often hidden from the public,” Greenwald said in a news release.

The Vanguard Court Watch Council will host public meetings on the fourth Sunday of the month at various locations in Yolo County. Goals include identifying court cases to track, police incidents to be investigated and cases involving alleged discrimination or prejudice.
