Film series examines ‘Tragedy in the Holy Land’

“Tragedy in the Holy Land — Other Ways to Peace with Justice?” is the theme of a series of documentaries to be shown in Davis this month and next.

The first is “Occupation Has No Future” (2010), which will screen at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, in the Blanchard Room at the Stephens Branch Library, 315 E. 14th St. Admission is free.

The following three films will be shown at the Varsity Theatre, 616 Second St. in downtown Davis. Showtime is 8:30 p.m., and tickets are at the usual prices.

* “Arna’s Children,” which won the International Documentary Festival in 2004, on Sunday and Monday, Oct. 2-3;

* “Encounter Point,” named best documentary at the 2006 San Francisco International Film Festival, on Sunday and Monday, Oct. 9-10; and

* “Slingshot Hip Hop,” an award-winner at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, on Sunday and Monday, Oct. 16-17.

This film series is a project of the Davis Committee for Palestine Rights, and is dedicated to the memory of Juliano Mer-Khamis. For more information, call (530) 756-4094 or (530) 747-0185.
