Final tuneup set for robotics team

By From page A14 | April 04, 2014

The Citrus Circuits robotics team is competing in its third regional competition this season, the Silicon Valley Regional, being held through Saturday at San Jose State University’s Event Center.

So far this year, Citrus Circuits, made up of Davis high school students, has won two regional competitions — the Inland Empire Regional and the Sacramento Regional — making the team the only double winner in California so far this season.

Even with two regionals under their belt, the Citrus Circuits team will find the Silicon Valley Regional the toughest competition yet, representatives say. The robots attending include the top three robots in California, according to a poll conducted by the FIRST California organization. Citrus Circuits is ranked third in the state.

The public is welcome to attend the event for free, however, there is a fee for parking on the university campus. The event center is at 290 S. Seventh St. in San Jose.

With the victory at the Inland Empire Regional at the beginning of March, Citrus Circuits already has qualified for the world championships for a fourth year running. Team members will travel to St. Louis at the end of the month to compete against 400 of the best teams in the world. Learn more about the team at http://www.citruscircuits.org.
